“Not only do the teachers at Napa Valley Ballet possess remarkable knowledge and experience, they also are extremely patient and caring. NVB is, without a doubt, the best classical ballet school around! Our end of the year spring performance, "Vive La Danse", was fantastic and showcased what the students are learning, level by level. By the time students have reached the highest levels of training, many of them are accepted at the most prestigious ballet schools around the country. It is simply fabulous!

"Vive la Danse! Celebrating the Arts" Spring Dance Concert June 15th 6:30pm!
Posted 2010-05-01
The greatest ballet master of all time, Marius Petipa, was famous during the 19th century for creating such masterpieces as “Swan Lake,” “The Nutcracker,” “Coppelia,” and “Sleeping Beauty.” Surprisingly, a hundred years after his death, these beautiful ballets are increasing in popularity. As a centennial tribute to Maestro Petipa, Napa Valley Ballet is producing the famous Act II of Le Lac des Cygnes (“Swan Lake”) as it was originally conceived by Petipa and set by his assistant, Lev Ivanov.
Possibly one of the youngest ballerinas ever to appear as Odette (the white swan) will be Justin Sienna sophomore, Olivia Mason. She will be partnered by Vintage High School graduate William Luippold as Prince Seigfried. Both are being coached in the original Petipa/Ivanov choreography by former ballerina and NVB Ballet Mistress, Milissa Bradley.
“Swan Lake” and four other works will be presented by the students of Napa Valley Ballet June 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the District Auditorium. Other pieces on the program include an original ballet written especially for NVB by local composer Kurt Erickson. This work will feature the composer himself at the piano surrounded by a corps of lively dancers choreographed by Isabelle Szasham. In addition, a whimsical Chopin ballet inspired by the infamous Isadora Duncan will be choreographed by Connie Vaughan and played live by pianist Martin Mansell. Rounding out the program will be a medley of familiar songs commemorating fifty years of “Beatlemania” and spotlighting local songster Doug Houser as he accompanies NVB dancers in a piece of nostalgia set by choreographer Vivian Aragon.
For more information on the performance, go to napavalleyballet.org or call 707-294-8820 for tickets. Admission is $12/adults, $6/students & seniors, and FREE for children five and under.
